A Centre County judge found probable cause yesterday to send a male Penn State employee to trial on charges of harassment and stalking for allegedly following a fellow female university employee in her car.
Centre County Assistant District Attorney Lance Marshall said Casey Grove, 800 Stratford Ave., followed the woman on two separate occasions.
Marshall argued demonstrated intent to put her in "substantial emotional distress."
Grove, 29, is accused of following the victim in his car on State College streets Oct. 13 and 16.
The woman testified at Grove's preliminary hearing that she had been on one date with Grove in February and made it clear she did not want to continue a personal relationship with him.
She said she had tried to maintain a strict working relationship with Grove after the date in February but that he continued to attempt to talk to her outside of the office.
The woman testified that Grove ignored her pleas to stop calling, e-mailing and leaving gifts at her doorstep -- one of which, she testified, was a "treasure map" indicating her house and its surrounding area.
"He said he felt like he was pestering me and he knew I needed space," the woman said of the e-mails and voice messages. "He stated that he didn't like himself."
The woman testified that on Oct. 16, she saw a maroon Nissan pick-up truck following her in her car on Valley Vista Drive, College Avenue and Science Drive.
She testified that she was scared because that was the second time a truck of that description had been following her less than a car's length behind her.
She said three days prior, a maroon Nissan pick-up truck followed her on Atherton Street and Cherry Lane.
She added that she decided to drive to her parent's home in West Decatur.
She testified that the Nissan then proceeded to follow her until she decided to pull off the road and took the license plate number off the truck.
The woman called police Oct. 16 shortly after she alleges she was followed.
Ferguson Twp. Police Officer Tobery Glenny Jr. testified that he checked the registration on the license plate the woman gave him and the plate was registered to Grove.
Glenny said Grove was questioned by police and although he did not admit to following the woman in her car, he repeatedly defended her statements.
