Snowboarders come to Penn State to promote film

Rain may not be the snowboard club's favorite form of precipitation, but last night's storm did not keep the club from hosting its biggest event of the year.

Nine members of the professional snowboard team Forum came to Penn State last night to promote the release of their new film, THAT! Penn State was one of the locations on the team's college tour.

"We're trying to make this the best stop on the tour," Kyle Barnoff, Penn State Snowboard Club president, said.

The premiere was open to students, community members and alumni, as well as fans from all over the Northeast. Cheering, the wave and "We Are Penn State!" chants filled 100 Thomas Building -- with standing-room only -- in anticipation.

Stickers, T-shirts, hats and Red Bull were given out before the film started. After the feature, fans had a chance to meet the snowboarders and get more giveaways.

JP Walker, Stevie Bell and Eddie Wall were a few of the featured snowboarders present.

Students watch the premiere of "THAT", a snowboarding movie from the professional snowboarding group Forum. The group came to the premiere at a packed 100 Thomas last night.

The pros said they were pleased with the turnout.

"Everybody's hyped, everybody's dope, I love Penn State," Stevie Bell said.

Walker added that he was "pretty surprised" at the size of the crowd.

THAT! was made as a way to regenerate the Forum team, Bell said.

Bell added, "Forum is what it is because of JP Walker."

The Snowboard Club contacted Forum and asked them to come to Penn State, Barnoff said.

"This has been in the works for four months," Brittany Vegso, Penn State Snowboard Club treasurer, said.

The full-length film features the Forum snowboard team. It showcases the talents of the 13 snowboarders in the 2005-2006 season. THAT! will be directly released to DVD.

The event was sponsored by Boost Mobile and Transworld Snowboarding, as well as Club Sports at Penn State.
