All-ages Roustabout! to perform at hookah lounge

For The Collegian

This weekend, age won't stop anyone from enjoying the musical stylings of Tally Hall and The Changes.

The two bands will perform an all-ages show tomorrow at 9 p.m. at Tall Shiva Hookah Lounge, 224 W. College Ave.

The Changes, which hails from Chicago, is a Roustabout! veteran, Jeff Van Fossan, the coordinator for Roustabout!, said. This will be the band's fourth time performing in State College, but its first attempt at an all-ages show here.

Bassist for The Changes Rob Kallick said tomorrow's performance will be a nice change of pace.

"In Chicago, we usually play for the over-21 crowd," he said.

Kallick believes that the sound of The Changes is comparable to that of The Police and The Shins, so fans of these bands might want to check out the show, he said.

Kallick also reminds listeners that the band's sound has evolved from its last album, which was only an EP. Tomorrow, the band will mostly be performing songs from its new album, which was released three weeks ago.

Tally Hall, a band from Ann Arbor, Mich., won't have a problem filling the house.

According to Van Fossan, the majority of Tally Hall's fans are underage.

"Tally Hall has really dedicated fans -- I've never met a band with a more involved fan base," he said.

Van Fossan likens the band's sound to the Beach Boys and Queen.

"The audience will really enjoy them," he said.

Keyboardist of Tally Hall, Andrew Horowitz, added that the band's influences are broad.

"We all come from different backgrounds of music and literature," he said.

This will be Tally Hall's first performance in State College, but Horowitz spoke for the whole band when he said, "We're all really excited."

Van Fossan is also looking forward to the show.

"The all-ages shows are more fun. It allows younger kids, even high-schoolers, to come in and see and experience music," he said.

Tickets are $6, but Horowitz promised, "We'll guarantee a $7 show."
