Letter to the Editor
Readers lack standards concerning curse words

I do not think that printing profanity on the front page was the most professional move for the Collegian.

But I am just confused as to why so many students have been appalled by it.

I can distinctly remember at last year's Minnesota game when the entire student section began chanting certain four-letter words to one of its defensive backs with as much enthusiasm as our "We Are...Penn State" chant.

Alumni within the community were very upset by it, as expressed in this opinion section in the following days.

Yet, we shrugged it off.

After all, excessive profanity is a part of every college student's vocabulary.

When we merrily chanted it in public in front of 110,000 people that day, we didn't think twice.

Now, these same words have been sent back to us in print, and we are the ones who are offended?

What goes around, comes around.

We are Penn State.

We are a fine academic institution. We are the top party school in the nation.

We are known for yelling more profanity to fans of opposing teams than a Dane Cook bit. We are offended at two suggestive words on the front page?

You can't be serious.
