I was appalled with much of the fan behavior this past weekend.
Constant booing and insulting of other human beings, even if they support another team, is completely unacceptable.
Booing should only be done for one of three reasons: a deplorable disregard of sportsmanship, a poor officiating call or a section failing to participate in the wave.
What really grinds my gears is people who are callous and disrespectful enough to actually boo our own team.
That needs to stop.
It's embarrassing that we could be hailed for having such an amazing student section, but yet we can't even faithfully support our team.
I'm tired of narrow-sighted, bandwagon, fair-weather followers who are fans when we win but mock our players when we don't. These students or fans join Facebook groups like "Oh My Gosh We Suck, We Need To Put In (insert new recruit's name here) NOW!"
Being a good fan, along with being a good Penn Stater, should not be a "when we win" thing.
I was, however, very impressed by the end of Saturday's game - not just by our team's display of heart, but moreso by what happened after the last seconds ticked off the clock.
There were thousands of white-clad students clapping for their team and chanting "We are... Penn State!"
There've been few times where I've been prouder to be a Nittany Lion.
Thank you to all involved.
You truly understand what it's about to be part of the greatest student section in the nation.
