Choice of language, photo questionable for Collegian

This is in reference to the front page of the Collegian on Friday.

I am having trouble deciding why the Collegian found it necessary to print the foul language that was present in both a photo and an article.

If prestigious national papers do not print such inappropriate language, why would it be appropriate or even professional for the Collegian to do so?

I understand that this is our student paper so it caters to mostly university students.

However, this newspaper is available to the public on campus and off and is shipped to alumni across the country.

This was also a home football weekend with families that often pick up the Collegian to read while they're in town. What kind of image were you trying to portray?

I understand that it is unethical to alter a photograph, but I find it hard to believe that there were no other photographs taken at Paternoville that would have been more appropriate for the front page.

In regards to the article about Bundy, I think a summarization of what he said would have been more appropriate.

Use of such language is a sign of a poor vocabulary and while that may be true of Bundy for all I know, it is inappropriate and offensive.

Penn State has a diverse student body with some of the best and the brightest, but Bundy is a poor example of the caliber of student that attends Penn State.

I hope the next time the Collegian has a choice to make in what quotes to include and what photos to choose, they'll consider not only their image as one of the best student newspapers nationwide, but also the school and students they represent.
