Upon first hearing the news that Jay Bundy had successfully made a sham out of the entire UPUA elections process, I first felt anger toward him solely for his actions of mistrust and disrespect for all of Penn State.
However, what he managed to do is nothing less than provide a realization of what many have been saying about the new UPUA since it was vaguely put into action.
It is obvious that the entire election process is flawed. The students at Penn State do not care enough about the student governing body to make smart choices, and I cannot blame them.
I myself did not take the time to vote because I am still unclear about what the student government even does for me. Does this make me uneducated and ignorant?
No. It makes me one of the 90 percent of students here at University Park who doesn't see any reason why we should care to cast a vote.
It only makes sense. Notice that even participation in presidential elections tails off in years when controversy is not present.
People may be quick to remember that The Daily Collegian took the step to endorse Bundy. Once again, the blame should not be deferred to them.
It is the system, not its unwilling participants, that hosts the problem. Congratulations on supporting a laughingstock of a student government, Penn State.
