Indulging in Cocoa Puffs, Frosted Flakes and Lucky Charms will soon qualify as a State College dining experience.

Though local police were prepared for a number of serious incidents this past weekend, they instead dealt with thousands of alumni and students flooding downtown restaurants and bars after a disappointing loss to Michigan.

Yesterday morning ominous, gray clouds loomed while the Penn State Equestrian Team prepared for their second Intercollegiate Horse Show of the year and hoped the rain would stave off.

A throng of pseudo-brides decked out in full wedding gear gave a whole new meaning to the term "white out" Saturday as they congregated downtown for Bride Blitz 2006.

News in brief

SPORTS

With 15 minutes left in the game, fans of the No. 8 Penn State field hockey team began to chant.

Home games haven't been that friendly to the Penn State men's soccer team this year. Matches on the road, well, they've been worse.

While finishing 22nd overall at the Pre-National Invitational might not look too good on paper, the Penn State women's cross country team wasn't disappointed in its performance at the 37-team race Saturday in Terra Haute, Ind.

Coming into this past weekend's Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., Penn State women's golf coach Denise St. Pierre said that the team had nothing to lose and everything to gain. The Nittany Lions were going up against a field comprised entirely of higher-ranked teams.

Anthony Morelli suffered a concussion in Saturday's game but did not make a trip to the hospital, assistant athletic director Jeff Nelson said yesterday.

The walk off the field was silent.

The Penn State women's soccer team usually has no difficulties starting off the game strong. Early in the season, it was mental letdowns late in games that hurt the team.

During a weekend when the number of undefeated teams in the country dropped from four to two, the No. 2 Penn State women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in victories at Northwestern and Illinois.

The season is young, but the No. 2 Penn State ACHA Division I Icers have already shown a knack for performing well in the clutch.

A trip back home turned out to be just what the Penn State field hockey team needed.

Every game is a walk over thin ice for the Penn State women's soccer team. One more loss and the team's title hopes are probably gone. However, after a perfect weekend in Big Ten play, the Nittany Lions' chances of another championship got a little more promising.

Already faced with minimal time between arrival and kickoff after moving up the start time of its match in order to be back in Happy Valley for Saturday night, Penn State men's rugby team left State College later than expected.

Penn State Icers' head coach Scott Balboni has a goal for his team this year: Take 50 shots a game and let up only 20. Now three games into the season, the Icers (3-1, 3-0 ACHA) are off to a winning start because of it.

Thirty minutes after Penn State lost to Michigan, John Shaw was at a loss for words.

With scores of hometown friends and family members in attendance, Chad Henne did not disappoint.

Adrian Arrington approached the interview table in his pads, grass still clinging to his right shoulder, and folded his hands like a businessman -- waiting for questions before offering quick, brief explanations.
