Decisions infringing on students' rights
I was under the impression that I graduated from high school last year and was now attending a university. I may have been mistaken, however. I am confused because the actions of Penn State President Graham Spanier and the university's administration are more like that of the principal of a high school. Arbitrary, unpopular decisions are made quickly, poorly explained and made all without any student input. This was exemplified with someone's (no one, to the best of my knowledge, will admit to who exactly it was yet) decision to limit the newly founded tradition of Paternoville to only a shadow of its former self, all in the name of "what's best for students." Well, no matter how long Spanier or any of the university administrators have been working here, they are not currently students, and I have a message for them: The only people who really know what is best for students are the students. They have no business telling students that they cannot sleep in a tent outside of the stadium rather than in their rooms. What's next, telling us we can't go out past 11 p.m. because it's best if we get enough sleep at night? University administrators are not our parents, and they should not act like it.
