Student struck by car crossing street
A Penn State student was hit by a car at about 9 p.m. Thursday crossing Gill Street, according to the State College Police Department. Meghan Sansivero, 19, was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Hospital for bruising and pain to her lower leg, police said.
Police said Sansivero was hit by a Pontiac Grand Am driven by Jessica Kozielec, 25. According to police, Kozielec stopped at the stop sign on Gill Street and pulled onto College Avenue because she did not see traffic. She told police she heard a scream and realized she had hit someone. Kozielec was cited for stop sign and yield violations, according to police.
Series of car thefts may be related
The State College Police Department said six cars were broken into during separate incidents Thursday and Friday.
A Sirius radio was reported stolen from a car at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday on the 100 block of Bird Alley after the top of the convertible was cut.
A global positioning system and other systems, valued at $1,050, were reported stolen at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday from a car in the 100 block of East Nittany Avenue. Another car on the same block was broken into sometime before 9 a.m. Thursday. The driver's window was smashed and several CDs removed.
Three cars were broken into Friday in the Nicholas Towers parking lot, 301 S. Pugh St., police said. Between 5 and 5:30 p.m., $20 cash was taken from one car, another car's window was smashed and several CDs were stolen from the third car. State College police Sgt. Chris Fishel said the thefts could be related since the incidents occurred in the same area. There are no suspects.
Patron slaps, bites local bar owner
State College police said a Penn State student bit the owner of the Shandygaff, 212 E. Calder Way, after being denied entry to the bar around midnight Friday. Laurence Cheng, 21, allegedly stormed into the bar and was confronted by the owner. Cheng allegedly slapped the man and bit him on the hand. He was arrested and will likely be charged with simple assault according to State College Police.
Man arrested for alleged assault
Robert J. Voelker, of Tannersville, was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of resisting assault, all felony charges, for allegedly throwing a can of beer at a Pennsylvania State trooper. Police said Voelker fought with officers when they tried to arrest him. He is currently in Centre County Prison on $10,000 bail.
