Jay Bundy has not been certified as the official University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) president, despite earlier reports from Katie Vogel, a UPUA elections commissioner.
Ashley Hill, head UPUA elections commissioner, said because of miscommunication between she, Vogel and the third elections commissioner, Sara Snyder, the announcement was a “mistake.”
“As soon as we can get the input from the third person, we can make a decision,” Hill said. “We want to fully investigate the violations, but we haven’t had a chance to meet.”
Bundy received the highest vote total in last night's election, but the elections commission refused to certify him until it had a chance to review a series of elections code violations that Bundy committe on election day. The alleged violations included unstamped flyers advertising a video of the debate posted on Bundy's Web site and unstamped posters hanging outside of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and Bundy's house.
Hill said the commission still hopes to make a decision about the violations “within the week.”
A total of 2,602 students voted in the election. Jay Bundy's ticket received 1,147 votes. Jay Chamberlin was second with 758 votes. Michael Hines came in third with 697 votes.
