NEWS

Students seeking national recognition, an extra something to put in their resumes or just a place to write down their creative thoughts now have the opportunity they've been waiting for.

A new form of student transportation debuted on campus yesterday, and the average Penn State student may not know just what to call it.

Attention discount shoppers: Today is the grand opening of the closeout retailer Tuesday Morning at 289 Northland Center, off of North Atherton Street.

The attorney for the man accused of killing a Penn State student was unsuccessful in convincing a judge to suppress the suspected murder weapon and statements made to police the night of the murder.

Alleged drug ringleader Michael "Beanie" Wright, who is accused of leading a group of 15 drug dealers that police say sold more than $800,000 worth of crack cocaine in Centre County, pleaded not guilty to all 21 counts against him.

At last night's work session, the State College Borough Council received a report on the initiatives being conducted in the borough to reduce negative impacts on the environment by greenhouse gas emissions.

Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham caught the game-winning pass last year against Penn State -- this year, he might not even play against the Nittany Lions.

Presidential candidate Jay Bundy's antics and quips dominated last night's University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) debate -- and may earn him yet another elections code violation.

U.S. Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George W. Bush, said last night that violent extremism is the greatest threat facing Americans since the Civil War.

The space outside Gate A is empty now. No tents decorate the concrete campsite that used to be Paternoville. No student cries of "We are" and "Penn State" echo outside of Beaver Stadium. No stereos throb with Zombie Nation.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, the White Loop takes on a new identity.

The candidates for president and vice president of the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) have laid out plans for bringing the "student voice" to administrators.

News in brief

SPORTS

For two weeks now, the Penn State offensive line has been operating without its normal starting line up. But at a glance, you'd hardly notice.

After scoring a late touchdown to send the game into overtime and then quickly reaching the end zone again in the extra period, momentum was squarely on Minnesota's side.

Having already faced five ranked opponents at this point in the season, the Minnesota women's volleyball team is fairly battle-tested.

The No. 1 on Alyssa Naeher's back looked more like a question mark when the season began.

After the Penn State women's tennis team left the Furman Classic with a disappointing finish, they looked to rebound in Flushing Meadows this past weekend, where the Nittany Lions took part in the New York City Invite.

On the scoreboard, there is nothing good about a loss. On the ice, however, it could prove to be a valuable lesson.

It's no secret.

SCIHEALTH

With blue skies and temperatures reaching the high 60s, Sunday couldn't have been a better day for a little run -- especially a run for a good cause.

The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) held an informational and diagnostic meeting Thursday in collaboration with the National Depression Screening Day.

A Penn State research team may have discovered last month the reason why medications taken regularly have different activation times.

This past Friday, Melania Elsner (freshman-division of undergraduate studies) shopped in the State College Farmers' Market for the first time. She bought apples and said she did not care if they were organic.

Another death related to the E. coli-tainted spinach outbreak was reported Wednesday in Idaho, even as grocers are re-stocking their produce shelves locally.

Parasitic plants may be able to communicate with other plants through chemicals, a team of Penn State entomology researchers has discovered.
