Paternoville excuses show PSU's 'knee-jerk reaction'
Why has the safety of people in tents become such a big concern for the university as of late? The controversy over the fate of Paternoville is boggling my mind. The arguments are laughable. Dangers related to generators -- Right, because you always hear about the millions of generator-related deaths in the United States every year. Extension cords in the rain -- I remember Jimmy Eat World playing in a monsoon with about 1.21 gigawatts of electricity piped around them and the crowd back in 2002. Alcohol use -- go visit any fraternity and then talk to me about alcohol abuse and underage drinking. I know students' best interest and safety are "in mind," but let's be serious. This is another knee-jerk reaction, and they know it, from Penn State President Graham Spanier to Athletic Director Tim Curley. If they need to have more frequent uniformed patrols, fine. If they need to hire a Paternoville coordinator who works under the athletic director's office and monitors the area's activities, fine. Just, please, do not punish those people who have not done anything wrong in the first place. Josh Rex
