Preachers guaranteed right to free speech
You have the constitutional right to say what you believe, no matter how controversial or hateful it is. This is the basic tenet of freedom of speech. The idea is to have people tolerant of all opinions, or allow them to express their ideas. The other rights you ("Traveling preachers abuse the right of free speech," Oct. 4) mentioned are not rights of the Constitution and are merely privileges given to you by the university. If you feel uncomfortable due to what someone is saying you don't have the right to say they can't do it. You have the privilege of walking away. Your misunderstanding of the freedom of speech notwithstanding, I thought their coming to campus and telling us we are all going to hell was a detriment to the advances in the LGBTA community we have made. I laughed in their faces and walked away. Justin McKane
