Card access unit reported stolen
The card reader located outside the Atherton Hall computer lab was reported stolen between 4:30 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. Tuesday, Penn State University Police said. The estimated value of damage is $556.
University police said the card access unit was deliberately placed there to limit accessibility to Atherton Hall residents. The computer lab is routinely closed from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
"I have no idea who would have wanted that thing or if they would have had inside information of how to take it," University Police Assistant Director Tyrone Parham said.
He added that card readers are not serviceable once disconnected from the Penn State computer system. There was no visible damage to the wall, and the card reader has been replaced.
