Student challenges PSU to monitor acts of speech

Yesterday in front of the Willard Building, myself and many other students witnessed what was called a "preaching of love."

In my opinion, these two gentlemen (who never actually noted where they were from) chose to come to our university wearing shirts with statements of hate on them. These two preachers faced us with statements about religion, sex, family and life, as well as calling Penn State a "second-rate university."

I think that it is in the best interest of the university to keep people like this off of the campus because we all know they are not there to preach love, but to stir a crowd of 200 angry students to life. Allowing gentlemen like Willard Preacher Gary Cattell to preach is fine as he does it in a civilized manor.

I also understand that this is a free country and freedom of speech is an important issue. But let's face the facts here.

This was a rally of hate toward gays, lesbians and people of different religions.

I challenge the university to keep people like this away because all it does is draw more hate (students were confronting one another on the steps) toward events like this.

Keep it civil and clean, and there will be no problems.
