Letter to the Editor
Presidential statements distract from stark reality

According to President Bush, critics of the Iraq War are "naïve." This is just his latest of many statements which aim to distract Americans from the real problem - the White House's failed Iraq policy. The president thinks that the war makes us safer.

If there ever were a consistent justification for the Iraq War, a highly dubious claim, it was to keep Americans safe. If the Iraq War is not keeping Americans safe, then our troops are fighting and dying without a cause. It is time to end this debacle on our own terms with a scaled withdrawal from Iraq. We should permit the Iraqi people to govern themselves. We must bring our troops home and allow them to do their duty of protecting the United States.
