Police determine fugitive sighting false

A sighting of a North Carolina killer on the run was reported on Friday to the State College Police Department, but the sighting was discovered to be false after an investigation.

State College police said a woman reported she saw a man at the Greyhound Bus Station, 152 N. Atherton St., matching the description of John Woodring, who has been on the run since last Monday when he was suspected of killing his wife.

Bonnie Woodring was staying in a North Carolina women's domestic violence shelter when her husband allegedly forced his way into the shelter and shot her. John Woodring, whose family is from the Altoona area, is believed to be heading for either Pennsylvania or Tennessee.

State College Police Sgt. Mark Argiro said it is likely that there will be more "sightings" until Woodring is caught. He said local police have been notified to keep an eye out for the fugitive but there is no indication Woodring is in the area.

Argiro said Pennsylvania State Police in Phillipsburg are handling the search.

Pa. man crashes car, charged with DUI

Jason Lhota, 36, of McDonald, was charged with driving under the influence after crashing a Hertz rental car into the Hilton Garden Inn, 1221 E. College Ave., early Friday morning, State College police said.

Police said alcohol was the main factor contributing the accident and there were no injuries.

Police said damage was not extensive and that Lhota struck the base of a lightpole, which resulted in scratches and dents in the rented Lincoln Town Car.
