COLUMBUS -- Penn State's defense dominated the first half of tonight's game, but Ohio State responded with four second-half touchdowns -- two from interceptions -- to remain the No. 1 team in the nation.
The Nittany Lions jumped ahead 3-0 at halftime as the offense couldn't find any rhythm during the 28-6 loss.
Anthony Morelli finished with 106 passing yards and tossed three interceptions and no touchdowns. Derrick Williams also struggled, dropping two catchable balls, and finishing with only three receptions.
Once again, it was a game riddled with missed offensive opportunities. Dan Connor opened the second half by intercepting a tipped Troy Smith pass -- putting the Lions 26 yards away from a touchdown.
However, Penn State's offense was only able to gain a single yard before kicker Kevin Kelly botched his fourth field goal attempt of the season. The Lions still led at that point, 3-0.
But four minutes later, Antonio Pittman led the Buckeyes to the first touchdown of the game on a 12-yard scamper off the right tackle. Ohio State 's quarterback followed that up with a scrambling touchdown to open the fourth.
Smith rolled out to the right, almost getting sacked by Penn State's Tim Shaw, before running left and tossing a 37-yard pass straight into the arms of Brian Robiskie.
Smith finished with 115 yards and a touchdown, while Robiskie paced Ohio State with 51 receiving yards.
Penn State attempted to cut the 14-3 deficit by marching upfield to the Ohio State 1-yard line. Offensive lineman Rich Ohrnberger committed a false start on fourth-and-one as the Lions had to settle for a field goal.
Morelli tried to spearhead a comeback but tossed two interceptions, which were returned for touchdowns, to end the game.
Tony Hunt was the lone offensive player with an impressive day for Penn State. Hunt ran for 135 yards on 24 carries.
