The fact that it is against rules to use amplified sound for a demonstration is generally a good rule to have, as loud music could pollute classrooms with unwanted noise. However, certain exceptions should be made. Sept. 11 was the most tragic thing to happen to our nation since Pearl Harbor.
We were attacked on our own soil and citizens were murdered. The university allows demonstrations with groups of people who can be more of a nuisance than any amplified sound. We cannot be allowed to forget what happened on Sept. 11.
What concerns me more is that the club went about this the right way. I am glad these students upheld their right to speak and continued with the service. If they are punished it seems like the university would be neglecting our inalienable rights as citizens and it seems to me that not only is the university turning its back on victims, but also the soldiers who are putting themselves in harm's way so we can have peace of mind.
