Groves' name affixed on PSU running event

The Penn State men's and women's cross country teams host the first of two home meets this season on Saturday at the Penn State Blue Course. The newly renamed Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational will feature a multitude of collegiate talent, beginning at 10 a.m.

Junior Nikki Bohnsack led the Lion women at the 2005 Spiked Shoe, finishing sixth in a time of 22:12. Sophomore Janelle Young finished 17th (22:36) and junior Sonja Hinish finished close behind in a time of 22:39.

After finishing first in the women's 6,000-meters at the Lock Haven Invitational last weekend, freshman Bridget Franek will get the chance to compete against an array of dominant cross country teams. Freshman Cheryl Spring will also be looked to for success along with an already established group of upperclassmen.

For the men's squad, seniors Dan Mazzocco and Chris Nirschel will be in the running for top places. Both are coming off strong races last weekend at Lock Haven.
