Letter to the Editor
Single mothers' struggle should not burden society

Kate Driscoll Derickson's Sept. 15 letter left a lot of unanswered questions for those of us who could stand to read it.

How could the male participants in the Tradition, Family and Property abortion protest on Sept. 11 truly make the lives of struggling single mothers so-called "improved?" Give them a ring? Take out their trash? Or perhaps financially support their unborn child so his/her life would be saved?

Contrary to popular belief, Ms. Derickson, it does not "take a village" to raise a child, and society should not have to bear the burden of being the financial caretaker of every child born out of wedlock like you claim. That is the job of the parent(s), and if they are incapable of executing such a task they should have thought about that before their night of sin, instead of inflicting it on the village.
