Student arrested for alleged assault

A Penn State student was assaulted outside Beta Theta Pi fraternity early Friday morning and left unconscious in the front yard, the State College Police Department said.

Penn State student Charles Reeves III, 20, of Hollidaysburg, was arrested for allegedly striking the victim several times with a closed fist, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint indicated that William Weaver and Ralph M. Mielnik, both students, were with Reeves at the time of the incident but not charged.

The victim was still unconscious when he was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was treated and released later that day. Centre County District Judge Jonathan Grine said Reeves was taken to Centre County Prison on $15,000 straight bail on charges of simple assault, harassment, stalking and for failing to give his real name to police.

Shotguns, knives reported stolen

Two rifles, two shotguns and several knives were stolen from a residence on the 200-block of West Pine Street sometime between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, State College Police said.

Sgt. John Wilson said he could not comment on the thefts because the investigation is still ongoing.
