Penn State students show gameday pride

This is in response to Rich Murray's rant about Notre Dame having a better student section than Penn State. Where do I start? Rich, did you graduate from Penn State or Notre Dame?

You said Notre Dame students were all wearing the same T-shirts. First of all, those were the ugliest shirts I have ever seen and I guarantee you that they were given away for free because there is no way that every single student would have been wearing the same exact shirt if they had to buy them. Some students would have worn their jerseys. It may have seemed that Notre Dame students were crazier than Penn State's because only 250 Penn State students were granted tickets and they couldn't go with their friends.

Penn State has a student section of 21,000 compared to Notre Dame's 11,000 and I guarantee you that Penn State students are better fans with better tradition. Notre Dame student tickets are guaranteed to everyone who wishes to buy them. Penn State's student section sold out in a record 13 days.

Anyone can put on a free shirt and sing a few songs. The only reason Notre Dame had everyone there 20 minutes before the game is because it was the first time the two schools played in 14 years on a picture perfect, sunny day. Last year our student section was filled to capacity 30 minutes prior to game time versus Ohio State in the pouring rain with a temperature around 50 degrees. That week was rainy and cold. However, hundreds of kids camped out for an entire week despite the miserable weather. How quickly you have forgotten Paternoville.

Want to talk about tradition? How about the No. 1 tailgating school in the country?

How about sticking with our team through thick and thin, beating Ohio State and rushing the field to celebrate?

Oh wait, Penn State won't let us tailgate or we'll get fined. They won't let us throw marshmallows because someone will get hurt. And we can't rush the field or we'll get eaten by a riot horse, tackled by an officer or pepper sprayed.

Don't blame Penn State students for not having the best student section, tradition or pride. Blame whoever is taking away our rights to be the No. 1 student section in the country.

You'll eat those words on Oct. 14 when Michigan comes and on Sept. 8 next year when Notre Dame visits Happy Valley.
