ABC to televise game against Ohio State
ABC will televise Penn State's Big Ten opener with border rival Ohio State on Saturday, September 23. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Ohio Stadium for the split national telecast.
The clash with the No. 1 Buckeyes (2-0) is No. 25 Penn State's (1-1) fifth announced TV appearance of the season. This Saturday's contest with Youngstown State will air on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. and the Nittany Lions' Oct. 14 clash vs. Michigan will be an ABC split national telecast at 8:00 p.m. in Beaver Stadium.
The Nittany Lions' season opener with Akron aired on ESPN2 and last Saturday's game at No. 2 Notre Dame was on NBC.
The Nittany Lions have appeared on television in 140 of their last 142 games.
Penn State and Ohio State will be meeting for the 14th consecutive year since the Nittany Lions began Big Ten play in 1993. The home team has won 11 of the 13 meetings as conference foes.
ABC or ESPN has televised all 13 previous clashes as Big Ten rivals. Ohio State hosts Cincinnati this week before opening conference play against the Nittany Lions. Future Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten.
Glass awarded POW award for Penn State
Penn State women's volleyball freshman setter Alisha Glass has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week, conference officials announced yesterday.
It is the first career honor for Glass, who becomes only the third freshman in Penn State history to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors. She joins current Nittany Lion sophomores Nicole Fawcett and Christa Harmotto, who both earned the award last year.
The accolade is the second of the season for Penn State, as Fawcett earned her fourth-career honor on Sept. 4, and brings Penn State's total Big Ten Player of the Week honors to 46 since joining the conference for the 1991 season.
Against No. 15 Missouri, Glass dished out a career-high 44 assists while adding three kills, seven digs and five blocks.
She directed the Nittany Lions to a team hitting percentage of .339 with three different players reaching double-digit kill numbers. The following night versus the seventh-ranked Longhorns, Glass again set a new career high with 63 assists and recorded eight kills on a career-high-tying .438 hitting with a career-best-tying seven blocks and 16 digs, one shy of her personal best.
