New Facebook.com site compromises user privacy

Can you say stalker-ish? So can I.

As an active user of Facebook.com, I am honestly disappointed with the new Web site. The recent changes on Facebook.com have been controversial on campus and in the classroom.

Yesterday, in my COMM 413 class, students briefly stated their opinions about how personal information is posted on one's individual Web page. This includes when one confirms a friend and when one leaves a group. It also shows what Facebook.com wall one has commented on and what one has said. I couldn't believe Facebook.com was the topic of discussion for even one minute in a college classroom. This can only show how much Facebook.com impacts the lives of students everywhere.

I understand there are other things going on in our world that seem to be more controversial than a student-based Web site, but it seems that Facebook.com has taken it a little too far. Although I do not expect to cancel my account, I already know of several friends who are terminating their account due to the changes. I can only continue on by saying don't let Facebook.com run your life. If you don't like it anymore, cancel your account. Or even better, cancel your account and then go buy yourself an ice cream from the awesome looking Creamery building.
