Collegian Sean Paul story lacks music appreciation

I didn't think the front page of the Collegian was a sounding board for ignorant views. I'm referring to the article "Sean Paul 'gives it up' to BJC" by Kevin Doran.

Mr. Doran made a comment that Sean Paul was trying to do a "Bob Marley impression."

Why? Is it because there was a slow Reggae rhythm and an acoustic guitar?

FYI, the original form of Reggae music had just that. Just because Bob Marley stayed true to this form doesn't mean Sean Paul was trying to perform like him. Many other Reggae artists like Junior Reid, Beenie Man, Damian and Ziggy Marley use the same format. Sean Paul was being sincere about a serious topic and true to his Reggae roots.

Although the peace sign is not popularly used in America anymore, that doesn't lessen the impact of its meaning. The entire point of Sean Paul's ballad was to promote peace in the world. Is there another gesture as widely used and as clearly understood as the peace sign?

Making the assumption that everyone feels the way you did about the concert is wrong. Looking around the BJC I saw a lot of people having a wonderful time and singing those "impossible to understand" songs, word for word.
