Penn State softball to hold open tryouts

The Penn State softball team will be holding open tryouts for the 2006-07 season on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. on Nittany Lion Field.

Prior to the on-field tryout there is a mandatory meeting on Monday, September 11, 2006 at 4 p.m. in 133 East Area Locker Room, across from the Holuba Hall parking lot.

The meeting will cover the NCAA paper work required in order to tryout. Also, students must bring proof of full-time status and a current physical.

Lady Lions announce 2006-07 schedule

The Penn State women's basketball team has announced its 2006-07 schedule. The slate once again features an exciting lineup, including six teams from last year's final AP Top 25 poll.

The Lady Lions, led by Rene Portland, are slated to face three Big Ten teams that finished in the Top 25, including Ohio State (No. 2), Purdue (No. 11) and Michigan State (No. 16). Penn State will travel to Duke, which finished the season ranked fourth in the AP poll, on Nov. 21 before taking on Rutgers (No. 9) at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands on Nov. 24. The Lady Lions will face either Arizona State (No. 15) or Western Kentucky (ARV) in the second round of the Thanksgiving weekend tourney.

Penn State will appear on television at least 10 times, including four appearances on Comcast SportsNet. The Lady Lions open the season in Philadelphia against Drexel on Friday, Nov. 10 before returning home for a three-game set. on the road at Illinois on Dec. 28 and hosts its first Conference match-up Jan. 4 against Northwestern.
