The homestand could not come at a better time for the Lions, who have not lost in their last 16 home contests. If that streak is to reach 17, they will need to build on their performance in the last game - a 1-1 tie with No. 3 Texas A&M.
"I want to see us continue to build on [that] game," head coach Paula Wilkins said. "We had players step into different roles and do different things and I was excited about that.
"I want to see them take another step then and be a little better in the offensive third and hold possession a little bit more."
One streak that Wilkins wouldn't mind seeing end this weekend is her team's knack for giving up the first goal of the game. In four games this season, Penn State has allowed its opponent to score first three times - a problem that she attributes to her team's focus and concentration.
Another concern that still persists for the Lions is where goals are going to come from.
With forward Zoe Bouchelle "day-to-day" with an injury and defense/midfielder Akilah Duggan nursing some minor bumps and bruises that kept her out of practice earlier in the week, the team is looking for consistency on offense.
"We're still trying to figure out how we're going to score goals and where they are going to come from. They've come from many different places right now with many different people," Wilkins said.
"I want to see if we can be more consistent with scoring goals first, keeping a lead and generating more than just one or two goals."
The return of midfielder Allie Long may ease those worries, even though she is questionable to play this weekend.
Long, who recently completed a stint in the World Cup with the United States' Under-20 National Team, will complement Krieger in the midfield and create many opportunities on the offensive end.
While Penn State wants to build off its execution from the last game, it also hopes to maintain the level of intensity that allowed it to escape the Aggies' hostile environment without a loss.
"If the saying goes true that you're only as good as your last game, our last game was very good," assistant coach Michael Coll said. "I want to see that replicated.
"I want West Virginia to feel like we've got 14 players to its 11. I want us to exhibit so much hunger that it looks like it's the last game we're ever going to play."
