LateNight Penn State will starttonight with a featured movie and will showcase an array of activities Friday and Saturday night.

LateNight, a weekly program for students at the HUB-Robeson Center, offers movies, crafts and a variety of other entertainment.

It will be held Thursdays from 9 p.m. to midnight, in addition to Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

This year, LateNight will feature something new: an improvisational comedy troupe called MissionIMPROVable.

The group is scheduled to perform later in the semester along with several big name comedy shows that are also in the process of being scheduled.

LateNight's goal is to provide students with an outlet for activities and alternatives to drinking, student desk employee at the HUB information desk SarahRose Greco (junior-psychology) said.

"[Late Night] features a lot of things like DDR [Dance Dance Revolution] tournaments and video game tournaments. Sometimes a band plays," she said. "It also shows a weekly movie."

This year's movie showings include, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Click and Lady in the Water assistant director of Student Activities John Harlow said.

Harlow said LateNight is going to offer the same activities as prior semesters.

Last semester, LateNight Penn State funded and provided a space for the Asylum show, which is a Penn State student group dedicated to organizing music shows. The event featured a number of different artists.

Annual events for the fall include the third annual Student Drag Show and the PSU A Cappella Showcase. Interactive games that require more skill than just handheld controllers will also be available.

LateNight also holds Creative Crafts every Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the ground floor of the HUB.

The craft station is run by the staff of the art center and will offer both new projects and old favorites this semester, Center for Arts and Crafts coordinator Stephanie Gush said.

Aimee Brown, an alumnae who helps out with crafts, said the craft table generally gets close to 200 students per night.

Gush expects to draw a large crowd this semester as well.

In a regular fall semester, generally 35,000 to 50,000 students attend LateNight, Harlow said.

He also added that LateNight's only change this semester will be its admittance to the new Center for Student Activities and Programming, a component of the new Student Programming Association (SPA).
