Letter to the Editor
Reader angered by fans' behavior at football game

Last Saturday I attended my first football game from outside the student section.

It may have been my last.

We tailgated three hours in the blowing rain. And we were thoroughly soaked like everyone in the stadium. But we were happy to be there, and naturally we were standing and yelling to support the team.

Not a minute into the game, the shouts began for us to sit down. We laughed and ignored them. After all, we were at a Penn State football game - the first game of the season. Sit down? Ludicrous!

But the shouts continued. We felt like the lonely Penn State fans in the season-ticket holder section of an away game. Only these were our own fans yelling at us.

Eventually stadium security forced us to sit down or else leave the game. Now we're forced to sit down at the game?

I understand there are elderly or disabled fans who must sit during the game. But the people in section EJU did not fit into either category. When is it this transition occurs from being a diehard fan to sitting complacently in the seats? Someone tell me if that ever happens to me so I can stay home to free up tickets for those who wish to come to the game and act like real college football fans.
