Ground broke at 10:30 a.m. today on the construction of a new outpatient facility at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, according to a post on Penn State's newswire, live.psu.edu.
The new two-story, 165,000-square-foot facility, will bring several of Hershey's programs including neurology, physical therapy, sports medicine and the Penn State Hershey Breast Program together in a central location, Hershey spokeswoman, Amy Buehler Stranges, said.
The facility, set to open in January 2008 and serve 150,000 patients in its first year, represents one of a number of construction projects at the Medical Center. Construction is already underway on a new parking garage, research center, fitness center and renovated student housing for the Penn State College of Medicine.
Plans for a new cancer center and children's hospital are also in progress.
