Letter to the Editor
Reader cautions Collegian on Middle East complexities

Just a word of advice from someone who has been studying and living the Arab-Israeli conflict her entire life: If you rarely discuss politics then it may not be a good idea to start discussing politics with the Arab-Israeli conflict.

This conflict goes back decades, even centuries. There are long and deep histories of people and religions that need to be studied before writing something that reaches thousands of people.

As a journalist for the Collegian, whether it be an opinion column or otherwise, it is your job to study the subject thoroughly before writing and printing your words.

A person must debate this subject regularly to hear all the sides of the story before forming an opinion. The Arab-Israeli conflict is more complicated than most want it to be and it is not a good idea to make your political debut with this topic.
