It has been two weeks (as of Aug 23) since the UN Security Council passed a resolution to end the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel, and already there are major obstacles to stability in the region. As long as Syria and Iran continue to fund terror and use Hezbollah as a proxy for a war on Israel, long-term peace in the region will not be possible.
The international community has, for too long, ignored the egregious violations of Security Council resolutions by Syria and Iran by supplying Hezbollah since the 2000 withdrawal of Israeli troops. The more than 3,000 rockets launched against Israel during the fighting were almost entirely Syrian and Iranian made, and trucks of weapons cross the border with Syria while the UN "peacekeepers" watch idly. In fact, it is Syrian and Iranian support of terror that caused the latest round of fighting, and until the UN is serious about enforcing its own decisions, Israel must take the necessary steps to protect its citizens from the daily threat of rockets.
