Update appended
This weekend's combination of football, move-in and labor day weekend resulted in a higher level of calls to police, but the State College Police Department said the rain helped keep the crime rate level with a typical move-in weekend.
State College police Sgt. Chris Fishel said Sunday night had about a 5 percent increase in the amount of police activity compared to Friday and Saturday, when he said the calls were consistent with years past.
Daniel Berdel Jr., 22, was arrested Friday after State College police said he forcefully entered the wrong apartment on the 300 block of W. Foster Ave.
Witnesses told police Berdel, a student, started physically assaulting a female resident of the apartment and refused to leave.
Witnesses pulled him from the apartment, police said. Berdel was arraigned that night and placed in prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said, adding that alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Police said an 18-year-old man refused medical treatment Sunday after he was struck by a 2001 Ford Explorer.
He was hit at the intersection of Beaver Avenue and Garner Street.
Brian Moore, of Fairfield, Conn., was running across Beaver Avenue just east of Garner Street when he was struck by Dan Phillips, 22, of Womelsdorf.
Moore suffered minor injuries to his left arm and right leg.
Police said he refused medical treatment.
No alcohol seemed to be involved, and Moore was given a citation for crossing outside the crosswalk when the driver had the right of way, police said.
A 21-year-old Penn State student reported that she was physically assaulted by her boyfriend when he pushed her into a dresser, resulting in numerous bruises on her body, police said.
The boyfriend, Nicholas Kunsman, 21, of Bangor, was arrested on Monday, arraigned and placed in Centre County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said.
The alleged victim did not receive medical treatment.
Update: All charges against Daniel Berdel Jr. were expunged from his record on Jan. 10, 2008, according to court documents. The charges included criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Although the article states that police said, according to witness testimony, that Berdel was involved in a physical altercation, he was never charged with that offense. Through a communication with his attorney, Andrew Shubin, Berdel said no such assault ever occurred.
