A former Penn State football player - whom police have sought to question about the June 5 murder of a Penn State senior - walked out of jail yesterday after a judge decided he wasn't a flight risk.
LaVon Chisley, who left the State College home of Langston Carraway's brothers the day before Carraway, 26, was found in his apartment, 110 Northbrook Ln., was being held on $5,000 bail for misdemeanor drug charges.
The judge ruled Chisley will only have to post the bail if he fails to show up for his next court date in November, District Attorney Michael Madeira said.
Maderia added that he believes that Chisley was a flight risk because he has no ties to State College and provided a Maryland address.
"I still have the same concerns about his appearance," Madeira said. "The court disagreed with us."
Ferguson Township police have remained tight-lipped about details of the murder and Madeira said police still do not have any suspects in the murder.
Chisley waived his formal arraignment for the drug charges, Madeira said.
Although Madeira identified Chisley as a person of interest in Carraway's death, he said he has no plans to press charges against him for homicide.
However, Chisley's lawyer, Karen Muir has insisted that she has sources that tell her Chisley will be charged with the homicide. Chisley denies any connection with Carraway's murder , Muir said.
Carraway's death was ruled a homicide on June 6, one day after he was found in his apartment by a family member who reported that he did not have a pulse, according to a Patton Township press release.
The Centre County coroner said Carraway died of multiple stab wounds.
