Penn State prohibits 'tailgating parties' during game time

"Tailgating parties" in the lots surrounding Beaver Stadium will be banned between kick-off and the end of each home game this football season, according to the university-run newswire www.live.psu.edu.

It is currently unclear what the term "tailgating parties" entails. No one from the university was immediately available for comment. According to the article, police patrols will also be increased.

"We are worried about the health and safety of our fans," University Police Director Steve Shelow said in the posted article. "We continue to see many fans under the age of 21 leaving the game early, or not even getting into the stadium for kick-off, because they must be taken to the emergency room for alcohol overdoses. We want to try some new initiatives to keep them safe and still let everyone get in the spirit of a great college football experience."

This season's student tickets sold out in a record 13 days. Penn State's football team was ranked third in the country last year following an overtime win in the Orange Bowl.
