Letter to the Editor
Letter opposing minimum wage supports prejudice

This is in response to the letter "Those on minimum wage should not raise families" August 7.

Calling those who earn minimum wage lazy and "leeches" is not a valid argument against raising the minimum wage. It is prejudice masked as a political view. It is ignorant at best to think that individuals work minimum wage jobs because they aren't working hard enough to find a better one.

There is a wealth of research (pun intended) that supports my argument and discounts Hahn's.

To deny a person the right to have a family because they don't live up to some arbitrary standard that you have chosen is absurd. By that same logic, I might say that Hahn has no business "raising a family" because he lacks the requisite moral fiber.

Anyone who can espouse such hatred toward individuals who work very hard to support themselves and their loved ones and deserve respect obviously lacks the appropriate values needed to properly raise a child.

The following three words could go a long way toward improving our society if more judge-others-based-on-prejudice-and-faulty-logic, over-privileged types would consider them: don't be ignorant.
