This is in response to the letter to the editor "Those on minimum wage should not raise families" August 7.
The arrogance flowing from this letter to the editor was nauseating but also made me laugh for a very personal reason.
Imagine a recently divorced single mother of two children, including a daughter who has severe asthma and a father living downstairs dying of lung disease. Yes, this woman works a minimum wage job as she struggles to stay strong for her children as their world seemingly crumbles around them.
Now fast forward 18 years to today. The son is a 2004 Penn State graduate working for the government in Washington D.C. The daughter recently graduated from college as well and is embarking on her own career path. The mother (you know, the "bail-me-out-because-I-made- some-bad-decisions leech") is enjoying a very successful career and to this day is still a hero to her two children.
The irony here is that comments like the ones made in this recent letter to the editor are exactly what fueled this family to succeed no matter the obstacles in their path. So to those who agree with the views in that letter, I truly pity you and hope you come to appreciate everyone who makes up American society, from the CEOs and political leaders down to those who work minimum wage jobs and keep this great nation running.
