What are you doing this weekend?
Chances are, if you're a freshman starting out at Penn State and you might not have an answer to that question off the top of your head.
However, there are plenty of things to do here for those willing to venture away from the typical party scene.
For those who seek some new, offbeat, exciting adventure on the weekends, here are a few ideas to keep you on your toes:
What-A-Blast,
111 Sowers St.
Penn State students can turn their favorite action movies and video games into reality in the laser tag arena. As many as 14 players can duke it out in the indoor laser tag dungeon.
In the mayhem-filled 15-minute game, players duck and roll behind barriers and shoot opposing players from sniper areas. The object is for each team is to shoot the opposing team's base.
"It adds a little more strategy to the game," employee Jon Craft said of the arena's design.
At the end of the game, players are given a printout showing how many shots they took, how accurate their shots were and how many times they were hit.
Dragon Chasers Emporium,
209 W. Calder Way
If you're up for a little more relaxing night, seeing a concert at Dragon Chasers Emporium might be up your alley. Couches and chairs line the walls, facing a stage in the center of the room.
Manager Abby Cain said the venue usually hosts concerts two to four nights each week. She said all types of musicians perform including rock, hip-hop, metal, emo, folk, jazz and punk.
What makes seeing a concert there so appealing, Cain said, is that the venue is open to all ages.
"If you're under 21, there's nowhere you can go in downtown State College," she said.
Cain added that the emporium has held other events such as video game tournaments and battle of the bands competitions.
