Letter to the Editor
Government should lower the legal drinking age

This letter is in response to the editorial "Police deserve SIP grant" August 7. Do you really think that pouring more tax dollars into a program to target underage drinkers is "a step in the right direction?"

Let's be honest. Does anyone really, truly believe that it is immoral for a 19 year old to have a beer as opposed to a person who is two years older? Most kids do not see that underage drinking is bad, they simply know that the law prevents them from drinking underage for no discernible reason. Please, by all means, explain it to us. Why is it wrong for me to drink but perfectly acceptable for a person born two years earlier to do so? If kids want to drink, they will find some way to get alcohol. Period. Save your $11,000 and put it toward lobbying for a lowered drinking age, like almost every other country in the world. Then, cops can use their resources for more important things, like stopping the rampant murders that have been popping up all over town.
