A 36-year-old Julian man ran a stop sign Thursday while being pursued by police for allegedly speeding on the 900 block of West College Avenue and hit another vehicle causing moderate damage, according to a State College Police Department accident report. James Deardorff, 808 Jack Straw Road, was arrested for driving under the influence. His 1985 Ford F-150 was towed because it was uninsured, according to the accident report.
Deardorff struck a 2000 Nissan Maxima that suffered moderate damage, but its passenger, Virginia Brickwedde, 59, of West Fairmount Avenue, reported no injuries, according to the accident report.
The State College Police Department issued a press release Friday asking the community to help combat a growing graffiti problem. The release asks residents who find graffiti on their property to remove it as quickly as possible after calling police.
The release also asks for behavior associated with vandalism to be immediately reported and visible graffiti in public places to be reported promptly.
Penn State University Police reported Friday that graffiti was found on a wall near the Joe Paterno statue on the east side of Beaver Stadium. The markings were spray painted on. There are no suspects, police said.
Penn State University Police reported Friday that someone hit another vehicle on Mifflin Road near Simmons Hall and fled the scene. The person was later apprehended at an off-campus location and DUI charges are pending. No injuries were reported and there was moderate damage to both vehicles, police said.
