War photo inappropriate
May I remind you that you are a college newspaper. - you are not the New York Times. The picture on the July 31 issue of the body of a child being carried from rubble, however powerful the picture may be, was completely inappropriate. Obviously it was not a Daily Collegian photographer who snapped the shot, but it was one of your editors that allowed the picture to be printed in your paper. Yes, we know what is going on in the Middle East is horrible and many lives are being lost. We see it every day and not just in the Collegian, but do you really need such pictures? I understand that you are trying to be the best journalists you can be, as I assume it's what you're here for, but you crossed the line when you used this picture. This was a child, not the next powerful war photo to be used on the front page of a college paper. Report the news, but please have some better taste and for goodness sake better morals. Journalism can be moving and powerful without displaying lifeless bodies of children. Leave that to papers such as the New York Times and the Washington Post. Ashley Berkey
