Paxson jury to remain in-county

Prosecutors in the case against former Penn State football player Scott Paxson withdrew a motion July 14 that requested a jury from another county try Paxson for indecent assault.

A motion for the trial, currently scheduled to begin in September, to be held in another county still stands to be ruled on. Jury selection for the trial will begin Aug. 7 and Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira said that if the motion for an out-of-county trial is not ruled on before jury selection, the trial will be held in Centre County.



Third Day to perform at BJC

Grammy Award winning Christian rock band Third Day will be coming to the Bryce Jordan Center Oct. 29.

Tickets for the concert go on sale at 10 a.m. today and are available at the Bryce Jordan Ticket Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, Penn State Tickets Downtown, all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 865-5555 or (800) 863-3336, or at www.bjc.psu.edu. Group tickets are available at 863-1812.

The tour, named after Third Day's newest album Wherever You Are, will feature fellow Christian rockers the David Crowder Band as openers.

Reserved tickets will sell for $29.50, while groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $21 each. The show will also feature Gold Circle seating close to the stage for $34.



Worker treated after 15 foot plunge

A 52-year-old construction worker fell from scaffolding at Eisenhower Auditorium at about 8 a.m. yesterday, Penn State University Police said.

He was standing on the scaffolding when he stepped back and fell 15 feet, striking his right side on a steel shroud and an electrical box, police said.

He was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center when he complained of pain in his hip and behind.

He also said he felt tingling in his fingers and toes. His condition was unknown last night.



Stop signs taken from Sparks Street

Two stop signs were removed from Sparks Street sometime overnight Wednesday into yesterday, the State College Police Department said.

One stop sign was taken from the intersection of Sparks Street and College Avenue, and another was taken from the intersection of Sparks Street and Highland Alley.

Several other signs in the area were "drawn on," police said. There are no suspects.



Indiana man arrested, charged with stalking, harassing 13-year-old girl

An Indiana man was arrested July 25 and charged with stalking and harassing a 13-year old girl staying at a Patton Township hotel, according to a Patton Township press release.

Jarrod Markley, 31, of Fountaintown, Ind., allegedly approached the girl at two different locations on July 24. According to the press release, the next day he called the hotel, asking for the girl, then proceeded to send about a dozen text messages to her cell phone.

The girl's family called police on July 25. Markley was placed in prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
