I find the presidential veto of stem cell research to be an abuse of power and a mockery of science. It demonstrates that we as a nation have abandoned logic and reason in favor of a theocracy and that the opinions of scientists can be discarded when undesirable.
The bill crossed no "moral line," as alleged by the president and wouldn't be destroying the possible lives of any "snow-flake babies." Any "moral line" was crossed five years ago when the president signed the original bill permitting the use of already created and frozen stem cells.
Currently, parents who use fertility drugs have three options when they have unused embryonic stem cells: Donate them to frozen orphanages, where they become known as "snow-flake babies," freeze them for later personal use or destroy them. This bill would give those parents a fourth option: Donate the cells destined to be destroyed to scientific research.
This isn't a victory for the president or religious fanatics; it is only a defeat for science, reason and hope for all the victims of multiple debilitating and fatal diseases and their friends and families.
