Jury selection for the former Penn State football player accused of indecent assault has been set for Aug. 7 -- setting the stage for a trial to begin in late September.
Tentative dates for the trial of Scott Paxson have been set for Sept. 27 and 28, according to court documents.
Although the prosecution requested on May 16 that the jury either be chosen from another county or the trial be held out of Centre County, jury selection will be held at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
Centre County Judge Bradley Lunsford, who is set to oversee the trial, has not yet ruled on the motions.
Centre County Assistant District Attorney Lance Marshall filed a motion May 16 requesting a change of venire -- seeking an out-of-county jury -- because "pretrial publicity has been sensational, inflammatory and slanted," according to court documents.
Lunsford imposed a gag order on all parties May 30, preventing anyone from commenting on the jury selection date.
Paxson faces a felony charge of aggravated indecent assault and a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault in connection with the alleged assault of a former Penn State student in December 2004.
The woman alleged that Paxson had non-consensual vaginal intercourse with her and finger-penetrated her without consent in his Nittany Apartments residence.
Lunsford threw out an earlier felony charge of sexual assault April 13, ruling that the commonwealth did not present enough evidence that would prove the woman was opposed to having sex with Paxson.
Paxson is currently employed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
