The bouncers wore T-shirts that read, "I Love Consensual Sex."
Last night, Players Nite Club, 112 W. College Ave., along with the Centre County Women's Resource Center launched the Sexual Assault Awareness Month Campaign to educate the college community about consent.
"I think it's great and appropriate," Caroline Hornbake (junior-women's studies) said.
A table with brochures, stickers and breath mints confronted the filtering Thursday night crowd entering the club where counselors waited to talk with students about the importance of consent.
Most students only glanced at the material before finding their friends scattered throughout the bar; however, Cory Ewart (senior-finance) said it did not mean it was not having an effect.
"It puts the message in your mind the second you walk in," she said. "I think it's a good idea."
Corey Cook, director of education and outreach at the Women's Resource Center, said this was the fifth year they have done this event with Players.
"Players was just the organization that was most enthused to participate," she said.
The assistant manager of Players, Colin Bitner, said that it is always a good idea to put out a positive message.
"We know we're one of the bars where people go to meet other people," he said. "And since we started doing this five years ago, we get more and more positive feedback."
Prevention educator Jessica Petriello said that the Women's Resource Center has developed a good relationship with Players.
"Players is a really proactive bar," she said.
Petriello said the center and Players were in no way advocating drinking or sex.
"We just want people to make the best decisions for themselves," she said.
