Recent Live concert at BJC shows band not 'kicking'

The review of the Live concert couldn't be any further from the truth ("Live show packs BJC," April 24). A packed house? Most of the Bryce Jordan Center was closed off, and not even the part that was open was sold out. The band was decent at best, only stepping it up during the last three songs of the encore. I couldn't believe how boring the concert was; the crowd was dead for practically the whole show. The sound system cut out for almost the entire length of "The Dolphins Cry." Ed Kowalczyk was also full of classic rocker cliches that would put Bon Jovi to shame. And there wasn't any "ratio of old to new songs"; it was more like seeing a bar band cover Live. The band only played its hits and poorly at that.

Another fine moment in rock stardom is when the lead singer sang the Sept. 11 remembrance tune "Overcome" accompanied only by the melancholy chimes of a piano, only there wasn't a piano on stage. Singing to a looped track is almost as admirable as Milli Vanilli's stint at Lake Compounds, Conn.

I'm tired of the fake heralding by news reporters saying "rock is back and still kicking." This band would've been OK to see at the Crowbar but not at the BJC. To the writers at The Daily Collegian: Don't be afraid to take a stand in the face of mediocrity.
