Letter to the Editor
Readers respond to issues surrounding censorship of art exhibit

People seem to forget that although laws protect freedom of speech, there are other laws that protect us against hate and incitement of violence. When exercising freedom of speech, one has to be both responsible and accountable for what he of she says or does. Labeling a Muslim or Arab as a killer or terrorist is not only irresponsible, but also ignorant ("PSU censors exhibit," April 21).

I do not support terrorism, nor do I encourage or incite it. There is a lot more to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict than a few pictures in an exhibit. Images portraying a Palestinian as a killer are simply a cheap jab at the Palestinian people living under the Israeli occupation and in no way serves the cause of either side. I will concede that there are certain people who are indeed terrorists -- denying that is naive.

But to be completely balanced, if Josh Stulman wants to show his entire exhibit, he should also show images of Palestinian youths being shot with live rounds for throwing rocks at heavily armed and well-protected Israeli soldiers.

Or perhaps show a picture of an Israeli army bulldozer mowing down Palestinian homes to make room for settlements. Would there be outrage over those images?
