Letter to the Editor
Lady Lion Quinn not at fault for decision to play at PSU

Regardless of the controversies surrounding the Rene Portland discrimination case, condemning an incoming freshman for her choice to play for Portland is not fair to that young student-athlete. To Angela Larson, the author of the letter, "Quinn's support of Portland shows ignorance of issue," April 24, you are holding a very young adult to your standards and your interpretation of the case, and being very critical of this young student-athlete before she even steps on to campus.

If Quinn is being recruited by successful Div. I basketball coaches, chances are this is not the first interaction she has had with Portland. Regardless, she should be allowed to form her own opinions of the situation and make her own decisions, no matter how informed or uninformed someone else may perceive her to be. Her experience will be her own, and you cannot predict her experience based on any other player's experience, however positive or negative. Be careful about condemning a young woman who, through hard work and hours of practice, has earned the right to attend any school and play for any coach she chooses.
